VIGAN CITY, May 1 (PIA) - - A total of 10,112 frontline health care workers belonging to the priority group A1 identified by the Department of Health (DOH) received their first dose of vaccines against the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, according to the latest data of the Provincial Health Office (PHO).
Of this number, 7,605 recipients received their first dose of the Sinovac vaccines while 2,507 recipients received their first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine.
From the 7,605 recipients of Sinovac, there are 1,968 who received their second dose of such vaccine.
Moreover, 48 frontline health workers of the Ilocos Sur Police Provincial Office (ISPPO) received their first dose of the Sinovac vaccine on April 27.
Two local chief executives in the province namely San Esteban Mayor Ray Elaydo II and Sta. Maria Mayor Brigido Camarillo Jr. also received their first dose of the vaccine this month.
Provincial Health Officer Dr. Carmeliza Singson said in an interview that the province has received a total of 12,940 vials of both the Sinovac and AstraZeneca vaccines.
“We have received a total of 12,707 vials of Sinovac vaccines and 233 vials of the AstraZeneca vaccine since the beginning of our vaccination rollout on March 5,” she said.
Dr. Singson added that the provincial government of Ilocos Sur continues its negotiation with various COVID-19 vaccine manufacturers for the vaccination of the rest of the population of the province.
“Ang provincial government ay ongoing ang negotiation for the procurement of vaccines for the rest of the population ng probinsya – iyong 30 percent of the population na hindi covered ng national government. Para sa computed na remaining population natin, bumili ang provincial government ng vaccine and we are awaiting for its delivery by this month at hopefully, walang delay,” she added.
The provincial government procured vaccines from Russia's Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine, Dr. Singson said.
During the Network Briefing News aired on April 30, Balaoan, La Union Mayor Aleli Concepcion said that their municipal government has vaccinated a total of 181 health workers and 123 senior citizens.
“Some of our constituents still have apprehensions but thankfully, there were no reports of serious side effects in those we have vaccinated,” she said.
“I was given my first dose of the vaccine last April 15 and I did not experience any side effects. I made known to the public that I was vaccinated to encourage them to get vaccinated also,” she added. (JCR/AMB/JMCQ/PIA Ilocos Sur)
