LTFRB-7 offers free rides for health workers, APORs in Cebu

CEBU CITY, May 15 (PIA) -- The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB-7) is offering free rides to healthcare workers and authorized persons outside of residence (APORs) in Cebu.

This was disclosed by LTFRB-7 Regional Director Eduardo Montealto in an interview at the Mactan Aviation area in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu.

The free rides started on April 16 this year and was formally launched during the recent visit of Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade in Cebu.

Montealto also announced that there are 54 additional units of modern public utility jeepneys (MPUJs) to provide free rides under the service contracting program of the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and LTFRB.

This program aims to help essential workers arrive at their destination safely and more efficiently by providing the much-needed transportation for free.

Montealto added that they are planning to add more buses for the free rides in view of the increasing number of APORs in Cebu.

Aside from providing free rides for essential workers, this program also helps public utility vehicle drivers gain additional income to sustain their daily needs.

The routes for the free rides are as follows: Naga City to University of Cebu Medical Center (UC Med); Talisay to Parkmall via South Road Properties (SRP); Talisay to Airport via SRP; Talisay to Parkmall via N. Bacalso; Talisay to SM Seaside via N. Bacalso; and Guadalupe to Ayala.

Other units follow the Guadalupe to Ayala route and vice versa; Guadalupe to Carbon route and vice versa; Talisay City to Cebu City route and vice versa; Tabunok to Cebu City route and vice versa; Banawa to Panagdait route and vice versa; and Cebu City Hall to Cebu IT Park route and vice versa.

The Free Ride Service Program for health workers and APORs is implemented until the Bayanihan to Recover As One or Bayanihan 2 funds for the Service Contracting Program is fully utilized and disbursed.

Montealto said the payout for the drivers and operators serving under the program has been arranged and will be done on a weekly basis. (hfg/PIA7_
