CALOOCAN CITY, May 6 (PIA) -- The San Juan City Government has opened a new COVID-19 quarantine facility that can accommodate at least 52 patients.
Mayor Francis Zamora said the newly built 52-bed quarantine facility is part of the Department of Public Works and Highway’s (DPWH) strategic plan to increase the country's isolation capacity amid the prevailing health crisis.
“I am happy that the container van facility is now done. This means we are much more equipped now to take on more asymptomatic patients and those who are experiencing mild symptoms so they can no longer infect their loved ones at home,” he said.
Zamora said to keep the patients' stay as pleasant as possible, the series of container vans each have a room with airconditioning and wifi.
"They don't have to worry about anything except to get well. They will have free meals, maroon doctors, nurses, meron ding wifi and meron pa silang P3,000 financial assistance," Mayor Francis said.
"We don't want them to stay at home because the tendency is they will infect other members of their family," he added.
To date, San Juan has 250 COVID-19 beds, 75 of which are at the San Juan Medical Center, 139 are at the Kalinga Center, and 36 beds are at the San Juan National High School Annex Basketball Court.
Meanwhile, report from the San Juan Health Department said the city is down to 668 active cases of COVID-19 as of Sunday, May 2, from a peak of 1,226 last April 14, 2021. (PIA NCR)
