PASIG CITY, May 7 (PIA) -- Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Deputy Director General Aniceto “John” Bertiz III has sought for active participation of industry bodies to meet the demands of the industries and private sector especially during pandemic.
Bertiz, who handles the partnerships and linkages at TESDA, made the call as he led the virtual regional orientation on the Implementing Guidelines for the pilot implementation on the establishment of industry boards last April 21.
“The challenges brought by the pandemic combined with the sudden change in the pattern of consumption, production, employment, and use of technology caused by the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4th IR), require proactive adaptation by the industry, government agencies, academes, and individuals,” he said.
“With these difficulties we are dealing, it is best for the TESDA to strengthen its initiatives to form strategic alliances with the Industry and other stakeholders to gain a foundation on valuable intellectual capital and technological resources,” Bertiz stressed.
TESDA has been pushing for the revival of the Industry Boards (IBs) adopting the sectoral skills council concept, an industry-led board that will help workers, employers, educators and government to identify needed skills.
Bertiz pointed out that it will also address the skills gap and improve training standards in various sectors in order to reduce occurrence of skills mismatch between the output of the learning institutions and the requirements of the industries.
“The Industry Boards, in addition, are seen as a potent force to effect the shift from being supply – driven to that of having a demand-driven TVET,” he said.
To revitalize the institutional arrangement, TESDA issued Circular No. 17 defining the implementing guidelines for pilot implementation establishing industry boards in the 16 regions across the country.
“This virtual orientation will provide a coherent understanding of the guidelines and to give a clear perspective of what it wishes to achieve in the pilot program implementation among the participants,” the former lawmaker stressed.
Bertiz congratulated all the participants and staff for the success of the orientation program as he asked for their continuous cooperation in creating strategic partnerships and meaningful linkages to help our fellow Filipinos. (PIA NCR)
