CALOOCAN CITY, May 31 (PIA) -- The Universidad de Manila (UdM) will soon offer technical and vocational courses that can lead to gainful livelihood or employment.

This came after the Manila City Government over the weekend inked an agreement with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) along with the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) for technical, and vocational courses in UdM located at 659-A Cecilia Muñoz St, Ermita, Manila.

Domagoso and Lapeña are signatories for the tripartite agreement, with UdM President Maria Lourdes Tiquia and PESO-Manila Director Fernan Bermejo as witnesses.

“The local government of the City of Manila will strive to be better and efficient as it offers new opportunities for training and education,” Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso said.

"I'm a believer in education. In fact, until today, I continue to try to learn new things. We will try to be better, to have jobs for graduates under this agreement," Domagoso added.

The UdM Center for Microcredentialing and Industry Training will house the TESDA Manila District Office which will manage the tech-voc courses.

With the support and assistance of TESDA, UdM and PESO-Manila will work hand-in-hand for the success of programs and activities aimed at enhancing employability, skills, and capabilities of the work force in the Nation's Capital.

Courses that will be offered by UdM are the following:

  • Android Development
  • Book Keeping
  • Bread and Pastry;
  • Catering, Food and Beverage Service
  • Graphic Design, Photography
  • Programming - Java and Python
  • Web Development
  • Coffee Apprenticeship
  • 2D and 3D Animation

On his part, TESDA Director General Secretary Isidro Lapeña said his agency will remain true to its commitment to provide quality training for Manileños.

"Namnamin po natin ang kasabihan na kapag binigyan namin kayo ng isda, ito ay pang-isang araw lamang. Pero kung tuturuang mangisda, tiyak na ito ay pang-habang buhay. At ang pagtuturo na iyon ay training po yun, at iyon po ang TESDA," added Lapeña. (PIA NCR)
