ZamPen senior citizens receive COVID-19 vaccine jab

Zamboanga City, May 05 (PIA) - Some senior citizens in certain key areas in Zamboanga Peninsula have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine as the roll-out for the A2 priority group is now being conducted starting last week of April 2021.

Also, more senior citizens who initially refused to accept the COVID-19 vaccines, are now expressing desire to be inoculated after learning the right information on the COVID-19 vaccines. This was also affirmed by Department of Health (DOH)-9 Medical Officer Dr. Jemuel Cristobal during the Philippine Information Agency-9 Kapihan na Zamboanga Virtual Press Briefing yesterday, May 04.

“I have talked to several senior citizens and they are negative to take the vaccine but with the basic education and information I shared about the quality of vaccination, the result turned out very positive,” said by Dr. Cristobal.

As seen during the information sessions among senior citizens held recently, they are really appreciative to the government for prioritizing them to avail the COVID-19 vaccines and for conveying the important facts with regards of it as well as the health benefits to their body immune system.

“Most were really hesitant and apprehended to take the COVID-19 vaccines but because of the COVID-19 vaccination orientation, we are now enlightened and we will support the program”, stressed by Maasin District Federation of Senior Citizens Association President Mrs. Bilbledes M. Cabatbat in an interview.

“Though some are not yet fully decided to accept the vaccine but the important thing is, they know the accurate information about COVID-19 vaccine,” she added.

As of May 05, these are the following number of senior citizens who got vaccinated per province: Zamboanga Del Norte - 886; Zamboanga Del Sur - 1,727; Zamboanga Sibugay - 307; Zamboanga City - 1,343; Isabela City - 0; and Sulu Sanitarium - 0.

Meanwhile, DOH-9 couldn’t yet determine the exact date of completion of the COVID-19 vaccination among the A2 priority group but will post online through their facebook page DOH Zamboanga Peninsula CHD the latest updates. (EDT/JRA/PIA9-Zamboanga City)
