CITY OF TABUK, Kalinga, June 4 (PIA) - - Temporary suspension of all tourism activities and the no entry of tourists in the province are still in effect.
The provincial and this city’s Tourism Offices keep on reminding the public that organizing tourism activities is prohibited this time of pandemic.
In Balbalan, Tinglayan and Lubuagan, stakeholders were consulted and tarpaulin posters were put right on tourism spots and on strategic places to remind tourists of the local control policy.
Going on sorties to their tourism spots, Balbalan Tourism Officer Regine Faye Munda Cruz conducted consultation with officials of tourism destination-barangays regarding the standing policy:
“Bawal po muna ang papasok na turista at mamasyal sa mga tourism sites (pati local tourists). Bawal po muna ang tourism activities sa ating mga tourism sites (example caving, trekking, camping, swimming, picnics, etc.)
In Lubuagan, Tourism Officer Ansherina Rose Odiem warns that if travelers continue to disobey, this could possibly increase the cases of local transmission. “Nagrigat talaga nga i-control especially ta along the highway tayo. She said the Municipal Tourism, Culture and Arts Council is set to convene early this June aimed to deliberate on strict guidelines and penalties to be imposed on violators.
The question in Tinglayan during the joint Municipal Inter-Agency Task Force - Tourism Council meeting is whether they are ready to open their tourism destination and cultural activities but they finally agreed to defer all tourism activities in the municipality.
The Municipal Health Office of Tinglayan has an agreement with Buscalan signed last March 2020 requiring the establishment of an isolation, that vaccination reach 70% of the population and sustained solid waste management which are yet to be done.
Mayor Sacrament Gumilab considers income as important but stressed that health is above all a priority. He said the goal is not to stop tourism but to delay its re-opening until the LGU is assured the community can handle it vis-à-vis the pandemic. (PAB-PIA CAR, Kalinga)
