Floods likely as shear line brings rains over parts of PH

MANILA – The weather bureau on Wednesday warned of possible flooding in some areas of the country as the shear line continues to bring rains.

In its 4 a.m. weather bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) forecast scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over the Visayas, Palawan, and the Caraga and Davao regions.

"Light to moderate, with at times heavy rains will be experienced over these areas, so flooding and landslides are possible," PAGASA weather forecaster Benison Estareja said.

Light to moderate rains will also prevail over Cagayan Valley but this is due to the northeast monsoon affecting most of Luzon.

Estareja said the rest of Luzon will only have isolated rains.

Moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough seas will prevail over Luzon and the Visayas.

Gale warning is in effect over the seaboards of northern Luzon.

Fishing boats and other small seacraft are advised not to venture out into the sea, while larger sea vessels are alerted against big waves.

Over Mindanao, winds will be light to moderate with slight to moderate seas.

Estareja, meanwhile, said no weather disturbance is expected to develop or enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility this week. (PNA)
