CEBU CITY – A food delivery rider and his cousin were nabbed Saturday with around PHP35 million worth of illegal drugs, believed to be shabu, in a sting operation in a downtown street here, considered by the City Drug Enforcement Unit (CDEU) as its biggest haul so far this year.

Major Jonathan Taneo, the CDEU head who led the buy-bust operation on Panganiban Street in Barangay Pahina Central, identified the suspects as Shelljay Centino Cuyno and Dennis Centino, both 24 and residents of Barangay Ermita.

The suspects were to deliver 125 grams of shabu, without knowing it was a legally-permissible test-buy operation. Authorities handcuffed them upon yielding the item.

In the ensuing search, police operatives found 5.12 kilos worth PHP34.8 million, based on the current street value.

Cuyno, in an interview with the media, admitted they were into the business of transporting illegal drugs on behalf of a certain Pastor Gonzales.

The police are verifying reports that Gonzales is a detainee here.

“This is another successful anti-illegal drug operation by our CDEU. This is the biggest and latest accomplishment of the city police,” Lt. Col. Ryan Devaras, of the Cebu City Police Office deputy director for administration, told reporters.

He said thetwo are regional-level drug couriers who trade in bulk. (PNA)
