CEBU, April 30 (PIA) -- The municipal government of Daanbantayan in Cebu led by Mayor Sun J. Shimura is now undertaking the necessary containment measures after recording its first COVID-19 positive case today, April 29.
DB Patient 1, a 58-year old male and a resident of Sitio Birhen Sa Enar, Brgy. Lanao, was a kidney dialysis patient who died on his way to Cebu City on April 25.
He has been going to Cebu City for dialysis treatments, the latest of which was on April 22, after which he returned to Daanbantayan on the same day.
He complained of chest pain in the evening of April 24.
He was immediately brought to Daanbantayan District Hospital and was discharged later that evening.
The following day, April 25, he had difficulty breathing which prompted the family to transport him to Cebu City to seek medical consultation at Chong Hua Hospital.
However, according to his wife, he was declared dead on arrival at the said hospital.
His body was subjected to a post-mortem swab test by Chong Hua Hospital on April 25 and the swab samples were taken to Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center for testing.
The dead body was then transfered to Cebu Rolling Hills Funeral Service in Mandaue City and was cremated on April 27.
On April 29, results of the swab samples came out positive for COVID-19.
Shimura together with the local police force and Municipal Health Officer Dr. Merle Visda swiftly responded and immediately implemented the necessary protocols after learning of the positive result.
"I immediately coordinated with our Inter-Agency Task Force and the Incident Command System on COVID-19 to implement the necessary measures," said Shimura who sits as the chairperson of the Municipal Task Force on COVID-19.
Following the mayor's orders, the local police headed by P/Capt. Ian Macatangay has cordoned the deceased's residence as the family members are strictly prohibited from leaving their house.
The family members of the deceased are now considered persons under monitoring (PUMs) and they have been directed to follow the mandatory health protocols.
Contact tracing is ongoing and swab tests will be done on all individuals who had direct contact with the deceased.
"Rest assured that the Municipality of Daanbantayan is on top of the situation. I’m calling all Kandayanons to please cooperate and to seriously follow the government’s protocols so we can fight the unseen enemy that is COVID-19," the mayor said.
