DAVAO CITY, April 27 (PIA) – Six hundred farmers and fisherfolks in Davao Region found market of their produce and earned a cumulative P4.8 million gross sales out of the 29 Kadiwa on Wheels program of the Department of Agriculture (DA).
The information officer of DA XI, Noel Provido, announced in the One Davao on COVID19: A Virtual Presser last Friday (April 24) that the department continues to peddle for this program and was even adopted by key cities like Davao City and Panabo City, Davao del Norte.
The DA also received proposals from Barangay Lasang that the barangay officials are willing to hold their own Kadiwa on Wheels through the Barangay Committee on Agriculture by making it house-to-house, a strategy that would bring along the agricultural products at the doorsteps of the residents in the said barangay.
Provido explained that the Kadiwa on Wheels was rolled-out to enable farmers and fisherfolks market their products and for the consumers to buy these products at a reasonable price even with the absence of mass transportation due to the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ).
“ I would also like to clarify that you may use your Food and Medicine Pass (FM Pass) for Kadiwa on Wheels scheduled in your barangay. The odd-even numbering followed for the use of FM Pass may not be followed as long as the buyer only uses the pass within the barangay”, Provido explained in the vernacular.
He said this has been discussed and approved by the Davao City LGU given that further restrictions as stated above will be followed.
The DA also announced that more Kadiwa on Wheels are scheduled and may even return to areas where the Kadiwa already visited to.
“ The DA coordinates with barangay officials because they will determine the best venue and how social distancing can best be practiced”, Provido said.
Meanwhile, the DA has already issued a total of 11,433 Food Pass in Davao Region, the second in terms of number next to Metro Manila.
The said Food Pass is only used to transport agricultural produce including agricultural inputs. This is to ensure that there is an unhampered food delivery for the people.
As Davao City, Davao del Norte, and Davao de Oro extended the ECQ, food pass issued in these areas remain valid until the lifting of the said ECQ.
Provido stressed that the government is strict in checking and monitoring on the use of the Food Pass and authorities may retrieve that food pass for its holder once proven to have violated the provisions provided in the DA memorandum. This will deprive the holder from transporting agricultural produce until ECQ will be lifted. (PIA XI/ Frances Mae Macapagat)
