ILOILO CITY, May 18 (PIA6) – A total of 250 members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender (LGBT) community in Iloilo City received financial assistance from the Iloilo City Government amid the pandemic due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
Office of the LGBT Affairs head Gabriel Umadhay said that they were able to distribute cash aid to 250 grantees in the metropolis on May 15.
“Each person got 2,000 pesos. I know that this is not much but I hope this can help them recover somehow,” he said in his Facebook Account.
The 250 grantees, who were the first batch of recipients of the financial aid, underwent three validations – online, barangay, and the City Social Welfare and Development Office.
Meanwhile, Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas said that the city government allocated funding amounting to P500,000 for the financial aid to the LGBT members.
He said these grantees did not receive subsidy from the Social Amelioration Program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
Meanwhile, Umadhay said that they are already facilitating and processing the second wave of cash assistance and essentials relief pack.
The following are the qualifications for the LGBT cash assistance: persons of diverse SOGIE (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, among others) and is a resident of Iloilo City; coming from low income family brackets especially those whose economic opportunities were compromised due to quarantine measures; and did not receive any SAP, DOLE, or SBWS of SSS assistance or listed as beneficiary of such.
