Calapan LGU distributes food packs to 62 barangays

CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro, May 19 (PIA) -- The city government of Calapan has recently distributed 50,047 food packs containing rice, sardines, noodles and other food items to its 62 barangays.

Mayor Arnan C. Panaligan said this is the 4th wave of giving aid to Calapeños under the city government’s Food Relief Assistance Program this time of General Community Quarantine (CGQ) brought about by COVID-19 pandemic.

Aside from the items like sardines, corned beef and noodles, some food packs contained seaweed canton, a product of Samahan ng Manggagawa sa Balatasan (SAMASABALATASAN) from Brgy. Balatasan, Bulalacao.

The city government purchased 11,470 packs of seaweed canton amounting to P418,655 in the said town.

“We helped our fellow Calapeños and at the same time we helped the workers of Bulalacao,” said Mayor Panaligan.

The distribution of food items was done by the City Housing and Urban Settlements Division led by Engr. Jojo Reyes, assisted by the local officials in the barangay.  (LTC/PIA-OrMin)
