KALIBO, AKLAN, June 1 (PIA) – Aklan borders would no longer impose restrictions to travelers from other provinces within Panay Island but entries would be regulated effective today, June 1.
This was the pronouncement of Aklan Governor Florencio Miraflores after the entire province of Aklan as well as the other provinces in Region 6 is placed under the Modified General Community Quarantine starting June 1.
Miraflores stressed that the regulation of entries at the provincial borders in Altavas, Buruanga and Nabas is a safety net for Aklan to minimize the risk of infections. Anyone entering the province should need to register at the border.

He acknowledged that such protocol would create inconvenience to the travelers but the governor appealed for the understanding of everybody as it is for the protection of the province as it could be used for contact tracing.
The contact tracing as explained by Miraflores is very important especially during this time of pandemic. If in case someone acquired the virus, health authorities could easily trace the infected and immediately be isolated.
For public utility vehicles such as buses and vans that have routes to Aklan, they are required to present their passenger manifest in the provincial borders to be allowed entry in the province.
Miraflores noted that governors in Panay Island agreed that PNP checkpoints will still be in place in every border of respective provinces in Panay Island to ensure that the minimum public health standards are being followed such as wearing of face mask, observing social distancing in public and private vehicles and anyone entering the province should submit to thermal scanning.
Hereminded the public that even though the borders are now open and there are free movements of people within Panay Island, still we are all at risk as the coronavirus has no vaccine or cure yet. (LTP/SQP/PIA Aklan)
