BGHMC COVID-19 testinglab clears backlog

BAGUIO CITY, May 17(PIA) – The Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC)    Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) sub-national testing laboratory has cleared its test backlog on reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) tests.

BGHMC Medical Director Dr. Ricardo Ruñez reported that they had cleared a total of 2,600 test pileup   from Regions 1, 2 and the Cordillera Administrative Region in less than a week.

BGHMC Public Health Unit Head,   Dr. Leamor Fangonilo, earlier reported that the molecular laboratory is running at its full capacity with three RT – PCR machines and   more test kits.

Ruñez said last week, they worked full blast processing 600-700 tests a day clearing out the backlog.

The Baguio City Public Information Office reported that Mayor Benjamin Magalong commended the team for their hard work while also citing the various hospitals’ excellent management of the patients resulting to a high recovery rate.

The city has 31 confirmed cases with 29 recoveries, and one active case There is one fatality.

With the city’s zero backlog status with the continued testing, Magalong hopes that the true COVID situation in the city can be established.

The mayor earlier rued the city’s limited testing capability that he said had hampered its efforts towards flattening the curve. COVID-19 national policy chief implementer Carlito Galvez Jr. and Senator Bong Go promised to help the city enhance its testing capacity.

He said Galvez is scheduled to come up to the city on May 21 to work out the requirements and to engage the other provinces and city in the region for a unified action against the disease. (PIA CAR)
