COMELEC extends suspension of voter registration to June 30

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, May 17 (PIA) - - Commission on Election (COMELEC) this city has announced that voter registration is temporarily suspended up to June 30, 2020 due to COVID-19 pandemic.

Lawyer Boris Banawag, city election officer, said the schedule of registration may resume in July if situation warrants.

"We advise the public not to go anymore to any election office anywhere in the region for the purpose of registration because it is temporarily suspended," Banawag said following reports that there are individuals who go to COMELEC to register in preparation for the next election.

He further advised the public to transact business with the COMELEC online to limit public movement amid implementation of the General Community Quarantine.

Banawag also reiterated that the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections, which was supposed to be conducted this May, was earlier moved to December 2022 in accordance to RA  11462. (MDCT/OTB/PIA 2-Cagayan)
