CV to transition to GCQ, Cebu City to remain under ECQ

CEBU CITY, May 12 (PIA) -- The whole region of Central Visayas, except Cebu City, will be placed under General Community Quarantine (GCQ) by May 16, 2020, announced Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque.

This after Pres. Rodrigo Duterte approved the proposal of the Inter-Agency Task Force on Managing Emerging infectious Diseases (IATF-MEID), which is to place high risk communities under modified enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) and the implementation of GCQ in low-risk areas.

By May 16, the provinces of Bohol, Cebu (except Cebu City), Negros Oriental and Siquijor, which were identified as low-risk areas, will be under GCQ.

Under GCQ, movement of persons shall be limited to accessing essential goods and services and for work in offices or industries that are permitted to operate.

However, movement for leisure purposes will still not be allowed in areas under GCQ.

Meanwhile, in Cebu City, where COVID-19 cases have been on the rise, restriction on the movement of high-risk individuals and re-opening of limited establishments and industries will be implemented.

Cebu City is among the three areas that remain to be under ECQ in the whole country, together with Metro Manila and Laguna, which were classified by the IATF-MEID as high-risk areas.

The three areas alone comprise 8,907 cases of the 11,086 total COVID-19 confirmed cases in the country.

Among the identified industries that will be allowed to re-operate under ECQ are manufacturing and processing plants of basic food products, medicine, medical supplies, among others.

Persons below 21 years old, 60 years old and above, those with immunodeficiency, comorbidities and pregnant women, will still be restricted to go out of their houses under ECQ.

Roque stressed that the easing of the quarantine guidelines in some areas still entail strict implementation of the wearing of face masks, observance of physical distancing, and strict respiratory hygiene.
