DA-10 inks MOA with CMU for a community radio program

MUSUAN, MARAMAG, Bukidnon, May 29 -- Geared towards the promotion of agriculture and rural development, Department of Agriculture-Regional Field Office 10 (DA-RFO 10) OIC-Regional Executive Director Carlene C. Collado and Central Mindanao University (CMU) President Dr. Jesus Antonio G. Derije signed a Memorandum of Agreement on May 26 for the conduct of a radio program to increase farmers’ productivity.

The program segment dubbed “Masaganang Ani, Mataas na Kita” will be aired over DXMU-FM 88.9 campus radio.

RED Collado said that the agency will tap the seed companies, the provincial and municipal agriculture offices in Bukidnon, and the DA-attached agencies to share their expertise during the radio program.

“Participating seed companies of DA-CMU’s 50-hectare hybrid rice techno demo will also be invited on air to talk on the latest technologies and innovations that farmers can adopt,” Collado said.

CMU President Dr. Derije, meanwhile, said that this ‘Masagang Ani, Mataas na Kita’ community radio program partnership of DA-10 and CMU is a big help because farm experts will be discussing on-air vital issues that could address farmers’ most common problems like insect pests and diseases, post-harvest facilities, and high cost of inputs, among other issues on farm productivity.

“I am hopeful for the success of the project and thanked DA for the continued partnership,” Derije said.

The initiative is in line with Agriculture Secretary William D. Dar’s directive of sustaining a massive information and communication campaigns.

As an added approach in keeping the farmers informed on various farming issues, Collado revealed that DA-10 has committed to further develop and improve said radio station to intensify its operation.

In 2012, DA funded P4 million for the rehabilitation and conversion of Radio Station DXMU-AM to DXMU-FM in order to step up the agri-fisheries information, education and communication campaign through broadcasting. (DA 10/PIA 10)
