DAVAO DEL NORTE, May 14 (PIA) – The province reassured its residents to not worry as it is prepared for the anticipated return of OFWs who are stranded in Manila.
In the May 13 episode of “Kapihan sa Davnor”, Davao del Norte IATF Incident Commander and Chief of IATF-COVID19 Dr. Alfredo Lacerona, tackled the concerns brought upon by the incoming surge of returning citizens outside the province.
When Provincial Governor Edwin I. Jubahib heard of the return of residents specially OFWs stranded in Manila, he had already planned where to house them, according to Lacerona.
He added that the quarters normally used by the athletes at the Davao del Norte Sports Academy consisting of 120 beds are ready to use and will temporarily serve as isolation units for the returnees who will be automatically considered as Persons Under Monitoring (PUMs).
As well, seven rooms in DavNor Sports Academy will be utilized as extension just in case of a surplus. Additionally, the DavNor Gym is being developed to house “100 beds”.
Lacerona stated that although the definite number of returning OFWs is unknown, the province is "prepared".
He reassured the public that upon arrival of the stranded, mostly OFWs, they will be taken to the quarantine designated areas where they will stay for 14 days and that the expenses of their stay will be covered by the government.
The coming home of the OFWs is part of the National Government’s Balik Probinsya Program. The waves of their return are expected on May 14 and 16. (Jan Vincent Leuterio, PIA XI)
