Duyog Ramadan on Wheels serves Muslim brothers during GCQ

PAGADIAN CITY,  18 May (PIA)— The provincial government thru the Provincial Agriculture’s Office and in partnership with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) launched Duyog Ramadan On Wheels program to widen food availability and accessibility in Muslim communities  during the General Community Quarantine (GCQ) period.

The program is the initiative of Governor Victor Yu where the provincial government procured the  undisposed produce of the farmers and fisherfolk to prevent wastage, and deliver the agricultural and other food items to the doorstep of our Muslim brothers and sisters  in the province who are celebrating the holy month of Ramadan, this May.

The presence of food trucks in the Muslim areas around the province will make it easier for our Muslim brothers and sisters to buy agri-fishery and canned and processed products.

Lindley Herrera, officer-in-charge of Provincial Agriculture’s Office said the agency’s dedicated employees continue to provide essential food supply to help our Muslim brothers to remain safe in their homes, while also strictly adhering the government’s health and safety protocols to stop the spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

Under the program, Herrera said the agricultural commodities are sold at a farm gate price.

“We sell vegetables, dressed chickens, eggs, fish, fruits and other basic food items at a farm gate price. For example, one (1) piece of dressed chicken is sold at P100 which is cheaper than the suggested retail price of P180,” Herrera said.

Herra said the DTI also partnered with them by serving mini-grocery and sell canned and process products such as sardines, soy sauce, vinegar, cooking oil, sugar, canned meat products, and other basic necessities at cheaper rates.

She said the Duyog Ramadan on Wheels has already served the following municipalities:  Dinas, Dimataling, Labangan, Lapuyan, Margosatubig and San Pablo and will continue to be available before the culmination of the month of fasting.

“The Duyog Ramadan on Wheels helped not only our  farmers and fisherfolk but also  our Muslim brothers by supplying them with healthy and nutritious food during Ramadan,” Herrera concluded (NBE/GCC/PIA-Zamboanga del Sur)
