CITY OF TABUK, Kalinga, May 30 (PIA) -- Even with their added roles this general community quarantine due to the COVID-19 threat, unformed men and women inthe province continue to keep close watch against lawless elements scoring on criminal apprehension, anti-drug and anti-insurgency campaigns.
On Thursday, May 28, joint Police operatives uprooted and destroyed marijuana plants with estimated value of Php210,000.00 at a mountainous vicinity of Lacnog barangay this city near the Kalinga-Isabela boundary.
According to OIC Provincial Director PCol. Davy Vicente Limmong, a concerned citizen informed the Police of the presence of armed men roaming the mountainous part of the barangay. Responding combined PNP unit instead discovered the marijuana plantation.
The composite team estimated the plantation land area as 300 square meters planted with about 1,050 fully grown marijuana plants.
No cultivator was apprehended during the operation.
With this accomplishment, the PNP provincial command together with anti-narcotic operatives are more committed to relentless anti-illegal drugs operation in line with the directive of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte to clear all barangays of illegal drugs.
In a related development,the good Police - civilian rapport and humanitarian outreach activities to communities resulted to the voluntary surrender on May 27 of one former militia of the New People’s Army (NPA) from Sitio Ubel, barangay Gawaan, Balbalan.
Aka “Junjun”, 51, farmer voluntarily surrendered to Limmong purposedly to clear his name anew.
Police report said 'aka Junjun" previously surrendered to the 21st Infantry Batallion , Philippine Army sometime in 2008. In 2001, the suspect was charged in court for double murder and multiple frustrated murder but said case was dismissed on January 30, 2009.
He decided to show up to the authorities after he was informed that his name was listed in the tarpaulin hanged by Balbalan MPS at the barangay hall. The tarpaulin listed Cordillera Police's Wanted CPP NPA Terrorists where 'aka Junjun' was marked with a Php 150,000.00 reward money.
“We encourage other CNT members to surrender, return to the folds of the law and enjoy the benefits under the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) of the government rather than continue the violent struggle with the communist terrorist groups,” Limmong said.
