Maddela prohibits COVID-19 related discrimination

MADDELA, Quirino, May 22 (PIA)—The municipal chief executive of this town recently issued Executive Order No. 25 prohibiting and penalizing individuals committing any act of discrimination in relation to Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Under the executive order issued by Mayor Florante Ruiz, the local government prohibits and penalizes individuals who commit any form of discrimination against the following persons: Person who have contracted COVID-19, Persons Under Monitoring for COVID-19, Persons Under Investigation for COVID-19, Overseas Filipino Workers who have returned home amid the global pandemic and health workers.

Other frontline service providers such social worker, uniformed personnel, government employees involved in sanitary operation and relief operations, force multipliers and other volunteers assigned in checkpoints and public officials are also covered under the said executive order.

The acts of discrimination shall include coercion, libel, slanderous or abusive statements, physical injuries, dishonor of contractual such as contracts of lease or employment of denying entry or eviction from usual accommodation rented out and refusal to give assistance or deny service to COVID-19 patient including Persons Under Monitoring and Persons Under Investigation.

Any person who will commit the discriminatory act shall be penalized in accordance with the Revised Penal Code of the Philippines. (MDCT/TCB/PIA 2-Quirino)
