DAGUPAN CITY, May 24 (PIA) - Communications Secretary Martin Andanar thanked the members of the media in Pangasinan for continuing to be the government’s ally in information dissemination.
In his visit to the Pangasinan office of the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) on Saturday, Sec. Andanar said the crisis communication campaign of the government in the COVID-19 pandemic has widened its reach through the media people.
He also thanked them for always patronizing the ‘Laging Handa’ network and public briefing broadcast of the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) which he anchors daily.
However, as a media man himself, he said it pains him to see the livelihood or source of income of his fellow media men to be affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
This is the reason why his PCOO team has been distributing relief goods to the members of the media in the country which started in Luzon, he explained.
Asst. Secretary Ramon Cualoping and Usec. Joel Egco, executive director of the Task Force on Media Security, also joined Sec. Andanar in his Pangasinan visit
“Media people are heroes in the fight against COVID-19. But the irony of it all is that they do not even receive hazard or combat pays. The pandemic emphasized the importance of media which is why the government is here to help,” Usec. Egco said.
Meanwhile, Dagupan City Mayor Marc Brian Lim joined the PCOO attached agencies and members of the media in welcoming Sec. Andanar.
PCOO, the government’s lead communication arm, has several attached agencies that include the People’s Television Network, Radio Television Malacanang, Bureau of Broadcast Services (with Radyo Pilipinas), News and Information Bureau (with Philippine News Agency), Bureau of Communication Services, National Printing Office, APO Production Unit and the Philippine Information Agency.
