CALOOCAN CITY, May 25 (PIA) -- The City Government of Navotas passed two ordinances to impose stricter measures on social distancing and extend the liquor ban in the city in hopes to curb the COVID-19 transmission in the city.
City Ordinance No. 2020-23, which amended the ordinance on the mandatory use of face mask, requires that all persons in public places within Navotas to strictly maintain 1-2 meters physical distancing.
This is on top of the requirement that all persons outside of their homes must wear face mask or any similar protective gear.
Any gathering of people beyond the number allowed by the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) shall also constitute a violation of the said ordinance.
Penalties for violation included P250 fine and eight hours of community service for the first offense, P500 fine and 16 hours of community service for the second offense, and P750 fine and 24 hours of community service for the third offense.
“We need to instill in our people that proper wearing of face mask and practicing social distancing is now part of our reality. It is our new normal to keep ourselves safe from any disease,” Mayor Toby Tiangco said.
“These policies are not meant to make life uncomfortable for us. They are intended to protect us and those we come in contact with,” Mayor Toby added.
“The Coronavirus may be microscopic but it is lethal. That is why we must do our utmost to protect ourselves and our loved ones,” he further said.
Meanwhile, the city government also ordered the extension of the liquor ban.
City Ordinance No. 2020-24 stated that buying or selling of alcoholic drinks remains prohibited while there is a prevailing community quarantine.
Individual violators will be meted with a P1,000 fine or 1-day imprisonment for the first offense; P3,000 fine or 5-day imprisonment for the second offense; and P5,000 fine or 10-day imprisonment for the third offense.
Establishments violating the said ordinance may also lose their business permit and face closure. (PIA NCR)
