CITY OF TABUK, Kalinga, May 20 (PIA)--The National Irrigation Administration-Kalinga Irrigation Management Office (NIA-KIMO) resumed implementation of their projects now that the province is classified under general community quarantine.
KIMO Manager Engr. Ronilio Cervantes said that among the projects that resumed work are the Php33- million rehabilitation of sections of the Upper Chico River Irrigation System (UCRIS) main and lateral canals and the Php9 million Mansanita, Ipil-Bulo service road.
Both projects are targeted to be completed in July this year with strict order for contractors and workers to follow protocol and guidelines set by the COVID-19 National Inter-agency Task Force, he said.
Cervantes said NIA-KIMO has 48 projects in 2020 which are already bided out.
With sufficient supply of irrigation, he said farmers were able to tend to their farms during the community quarantine period. Harvest will start in June until July, he added.
“We are glad that no water cut-off happened during the quarantine period and operations of UCRIS went normal,” Cervantes said.
He said total planted this dry season is 17,194 hectares including Quezon in Isabela with expected yield of more than 70,000 metric tons. For Tabuk area alone is about 5,356 hectares with achievable yield of more than 25,000 metric tons. (JDP/PAB-PIA CAR, Kalinga)
