Pasig lifts ‘Barangay Coding’ in establishments except at Mega Market

PASIG CITY, June 1 (PIA) – As Metro Manila shifts to general community quarantine (GCQ) phase, the Pasig City government lifts the ‘Barangay Coding’ scheme in establishments in the city starting today, except at the Pasig Mega Market.

“Wala na pong barangay coding, except sa Pasig Mega Market. Dahil alam po natin yung Pasig Mega Market, sentro po yan ng lokal na ekonomiya,” said Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto during his Facebook live on Sunday afternoon.

Mayor Sotto explained the risk of relaxing the barangay coding at the mega market since many people converge in the area.

“Kung masyado tayong magluluwag sa Mega Market, baka delikado ho dahil maraming pumupunta diyan na taga iba’t ibang barangay. Diyan po nagkakahalo-halo ang 30 barangays ng Pasig City,” said Mayor Sotto.

He added that aside from residents of the city who go to the mega market, other residents from the nearby Municipality of Pateros and from the province of Rizal also visit the mega market.

“So barangay coding will remain effective in the Pasig Mega Market.”

The local chief called on the cooperation of everyone to make sure to minimize the spread of the virus.

He also encouraged everyone to follow safety healthy protocols like wearing of mask, frequent hand washing, and keeping a healthy lifestyle.

Likewise, Mayor Sotto encouraged residents to stay at home and do essential travels only.

Based on the city’s barangay coding which was implemented since April, only 10 barangays will be allowed to visit and buy at the Pasig Mega Market, from Monday to Saturday, from 5:00AM to 5:00PM. (Pasig City/PIA-NCR)
