PCL prexy: LGUs must prepare for COVID-19 2nd wave

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, May 18 (PIA) - - Local Government Units (LGUs) must lay down their preparedness and contigency plans to properly respond to pandemics like the Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Maila Rosario Ting-Que, city councilor and president of the Philippine Councilors League Region 2 chapter, said local governments must always be prepared because there is a possibilty of a second wave of the COVID-19 or occurence of similar phenomenon.

She said few of the things that LGUs should consider in their respective plans include the establishment of quarantine facilities, ensuring the availability of personal protective equipment, further training of frontliners, among others.

"On quarantine facility alone we are spending so much because we are using hotels and other private establishments aside from the provision of foods and other daily needs of those undergoing quarantine so we need to have our own," Que said.

She added that aside from the LGUs, government agencies and other sectors should also present their response plans in the event that there will be another wave of the crisis.

"Though we are praying that this pandemic will be over soon, we should be prepared always," Que added.

To formalize this, the PCL prexy said she will sponsor an ordinance mandating all LGUs in the province to pass their respective preparedness, response, contigency and recovery plans on COVID-19 and other similar eventualities. (MDCT/OTB/PIA 2-Cagayan)
