PopCom launches RPFP COVID-19 helpline

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, May 27 (PIA) - - The Commission on Population and Development (PopCom) region 2 has launched its Responsible Parenthood and Family Planning (RPFP) Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) helpline recently.

Herita Macarubbo, regional director, said the helpline shall serve as a link between the agency and its clients to access information about family planning and COVID-19-related concerns.

She said anyone can call or send a message of inquiry to the helpline numbers at 0936-723-1145 for globe users and 0919-496-4305 for smart users. The public is also encouraged to send private message to their official Facebook page at Commission on Population and Development II .

"With the declaration of a national emergency due to COVID-19, the access and delivery of family planning information and services can be interrupted. Interrupted family planning services may lead to a higher unmet need for modern family planning and subsequently unintended pregnancy," Macarubbo said.

She added the 'helpline' as an institutionalized mechanism ensures continuous provision of PopCom's services particularly for the current users and those intending to use any family planning methods.

Macarubbo added that the helpline also aims to assist or refer clients to appropriate service delivery points, to facilities, or directly to the service providers.

"We entertain reproductive health concerns such as but not limited to the prevention of maternal health, men's involvement, gender-based violence and other sexual health concerns," Macarubbo said.

The regional director added that the helpline also aims to receive reports and complaints in relation to RPFP service delivery and other population-related technical and administrative issues and endorse the same to appropriate agencies. (MDCT/OTB/PIA 2-Cagayan)
