LA TRINIDAD, Benguet, May 16(PIA) -Families in far flung areas in two municipalities in the province received relief goods which were airlifted over the weekend.
Governor Melchor Diclas together with La Trinidad Councilor and Ex officio Provincial Board Member Nestor Fongwan Jr., Benguet Congressional Office Head Coordinator Anthony Kuan, Philippine Red Cross Benguet Chapter Administrator Oscar Paris and Mayors Victorio Palangdan of Itogon and Cesar Molitas of Kibungan led the airlifting of the relief goods thru the Philippine Air Force – Tactical Operations Group- Baguio on May 9 to 11, 2020.
Goods were airlifted to sitio Domolpos in Tinongdan and sitios Oling, Bantic and Lawiguen in Dalupirip in Itogon and in Barangays Tacadang and Badew in Kibungan with more than 500 families benefiting from the relief operations.
The provincial government turned over food packs to each of the families of the said areas packed with rice, canned goods, noodles, and other basic food items. Fongwan Jr. also turned over sacks of sugar and salt.
The municipal mayors of Itogon and Kibungan also turned over one sack of 25-kilograms of rice to each of the households. These were bought from the Bayanihan Fund Grant of the LGUs as part of the support of the national government during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Office of the Congressman also gave vitamins and medicines to the beneficiaries in the areas.
The Kibungan and Itogon Municipal Police Office provided security and other support during the conduct of the relief operations.
Relief goods were earlier airlifted to remote communities in Badew and Tacadang in Kibungan and Kayapa in Bakun.
These operations to areas which could be reached by hours of hiking were coordinated by the Benguet Red Cross with Office of Civil Defense – Cordillera and the PAF-TOG Baguio.(JDP/RMC- PIA CAR)
