CALOOCAN CITY, May 25 (PIA) -- Manila City Vice Mayor Dr. Maria Sheilah 'Honey' Lacuna-Pangan on Saturday said that confirmed COVID-19 cases in the nation's capital is expected to rise due to the city's continuous mass testing operations.
WIth mass testing operations, Lacuna-Pangan said the Manila City government will be able to immediately identify and isolate infected residents from their communities.
The Vice Mayor said that the city government will continue to identify residents who have been infected by COVID-19 but have not yet been identified and isolated.
"Halimbawa, sa isang community, meron na kaming nakitang positive sa swabbing. So magcocontrate na kami sa community na yun. Bubugbugin namin yung community na iyon sa rapid testing pagkatapos lahat ng makuha namin na positive roon, is-swab na natin. At least maze-zeroed na natin kung asan yung may problema," Lacuna-Pangan said.
"So we identify kung saan yung maraming may positive cases then we do massive rapid testing in these barangays and then pagkatapos noon lahat ng nagpositive doon, automatic isswab na po namin, i-i-isolate na po agad namin sila. Hindi na po natin sila ibabalik sa community nila," she added.
Based on data from the Manila Health Department, a total of 41,458 rapid tests and 7,328 swab test has already conducted as of Friday, May 22, 6:00 pm.
With this, Lacuna-Pangan explained that the number of COVID-19 cases in Manila is expected to increase everyday due to the mass testing operations.
"Gaya po ng sinasabi ni Mayor Isko Moreno, ieexpect po natin, mga batang Maynila, na tataas pa po 'yung numero ng mga magpa-positive sa kadahilanang gumagawa tayo ng mass testing ngayon," Lacuna-Pangan said.
Lacuna-Pangan also assured the public that there would be no shortage of kits despite the efforts of the local government to conduct mass testing.
Lacuna-Pangan also said that the Manila City government has begun constructing its own COVID-19 testing laboratory at the Sta. Ana Hospital.
The Vice Mayor said that the laboratory being constructed could process nearly 200 swab tests per day.
She also said the laboratory is also set to be assessed and inspected by the Department of Health (DOH). (PIO Manila/PIA-NCR)
