BONTOC, Mountain Province, June 29(PIA) – About 15,210 member-consumers of the Mountain Province Electric Cooperative (MOPRECO) benefited from the Pantawid Liwanag Program while the province was under enhanced community quarantine due to the novel corona virus 2019 (COVID-19) crisis.
Engr. Arnold Polilin of MOPRECO said the Pantawid Liwanag Program was implemented for the billing month of April 2020 wherein residential member-consumer-owners who have consumed 10kwh and below for the month were not required to pay their bill.
The Pantawid Liwanag Program is the response of rural electric cooperatives to government’s call to support its Bayanihan to Heal as One Act Program by subsidizing its marginalized member-consumers who are mostly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The implementation of this program depends on the financial capability of each electric cooperative.
MOPRECO used the unutilized budget for programs and activities that were cancelled due to COVID-19 crisis for this response measure, but this can only subsidize consumers who consumed 10kwh and below for one month. (JDP/JBS-PIA CAR, Mt. Province)
