Dgte releases social pension for eligible senior citizens 

DUMAGUETE CITY, June 3 (PIA) -- Eligible senior citizens in barangays Motong, Pulantubig, Bunao, Taclobo, Piapi, Cadawinonan, and Tabuc-tubig in the city received P3,000 each during this week’s payout of social pensions covering the first semester of the year 2020. 

After completing the payout in the said barangays, personnel from the Office of Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA) and City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) will move to other scheduled barangays. 

Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo instructed OSCA and CSWD to coordinate with the barangay officials concerned so that appropriate venues are identified and health protocols are observed during the distribution.

The mayor also said that advance notice for the recipients must be given. 

The social pension of the senior citizens who may find it difficult to be physically present in the designated venues were brought to their own homes.

There are 2,308 beneficiaries of the social pension in Dumaguete City as identified by the DSWD Regional Office 7.

City Social Welfare and Development Officer Lilibeth Filipinas shared the following the criteria of DSWD-7 in choosing who among the senior citizens are eligible to receive the social pension: 

  1. Must be 60 years old and above;
  2. Those who are not receiving any pension or survivorship pensions; 
  3. Not receiving financial support from children, especially from abroad; 
  4. Have medical maintenance; and 
  5. Those who are among the indigent residents of the barangay especially those who are bedridden. 

The next set of barangays scheduled for the distribution of social pensions will be barangays Mangnao at Covered Court; Looc at San Juan Chapel; Poblacion 8 at Barangay Hall; and barangays Candau-ay at Scandinavian Covered Court; Bantayan at Barangay Hall; and Poblacion 1 and Poblacion 2 at Tinago Covered Court.
