DOH-10 hands P100 thousand check to COVID-19 infected health worker

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, June 6 (PIA) – As pledged by the government to extend financial assistance to health workers infected with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), the Department of Health (DOH)-10 has turned-over P100 thousand check to the family of the sick health worker who is now confined for COVID-19 at the Northern Mindanao Medical Center (NMMC) here. 

Dr. Adriano P. Suba-an, DOH-10 regional director said in a press conference yesterday, June 5, that in Northern Mindanao, there are four health workers who contracted COVID-19.

"The three are already okay and asymptomatic and we have one who is actually hospitalized right now with severe case. That is the reason we are providing P100 thousand as a financial assistance to the family," he said.

The patient, who reportedly caugth the virus in Cebu, is said to be the first health worker in the region with a severe case, as the other three are either asymptomatic or with mild symptoms.

The financial assistance for COVID-infected health workers has been provided for under the Bayanihan To Heal As One Act which emphasizes the need for unity and support to defeat the pandemic.

Meanwhile, DOH-10 shared the Critical Care Utilization rate in the region with only 7.9 percent isolation beds are utilzed, another 7.9 percent utilized for severe and critical case, and 3.3 percent utilized for COVID wards.

"The low utilization rate is a good indicator that the DOH-10 as well as the RIATF’s steps to mitigate the virus has been fruitful," Suba-an stressed. 

As of now, there are currently 33 confirmed cases in the region. The DOH-10 and the RIATF will continue to oversee the safety of the people of Northern Mindanao and overcome the challenges in this time of the pandemic. (VPSBautista/PIA10)
