DOH-8: 47 OFWs from Southern Leyte test negative for COVID-19

MAASIN CITY, June 4 (PIA) -- The regional office of the Department of Health in Eastern Visayas (DOH-8) announced Wednesday that 47 returning Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) from the province of Southern Leyte whose swab samples were sent to the Eastern Visayas Regional COVID-19 Testing Center in Tacloban over the weekend tested negative of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).

“The 275 negative sample results came from various municipalities in Leyte (133), Southern Leyte (47), Samar (80), Northern Samar (1), Eastern Samar (1) and Biliran (13),” the DOH-8 said in a press release dated June 3.

The re-swabbing was carried out in response to an earlier post by the regional health office that arriving OFWs from Hilongos and Tolosa last week turned out positive of the virus, and these two were on the same flight with those coming in for the province.

Still, in spite of this breeze of good news, the returning OFWs will still continue with the required health protocol of a 14-day mandatory quarantine in designated isolation units of local government units since they arrived.

Based on a list provided by Joewil Napuli, provincial surveillance officer, the 47 foreign workers came from 11 towns and one city of the province, with the city getting the lion’s share of 16 persons.

The others are from Padre Burgos (4), Limasawa (3), Malitbog (1), Bontoc (2), Sogod (6), Liloan (3), Saint Bernard (3), San Juan (1), Hinundayan (2), Hinunangan (4), and Silago (2).  (ldl/mmp/PIA8-Southern Leyte)
