ILOILO CITY, June 2 (PIA6) – The Department of Health Western Visayas Center for Health Development (DOH WV CHD) reminded local government units (LGUs), hospitals, and other health facilities in Region 6 to re-visit and strengthen essential services other than programs addressing the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
In a virtual press briefing, Dr. Renilyn Reyes, DOH6 Public Health Development Program Head, said that the department has an office dedicated to look into essential services other than COVID-19 and they have sent advisories to local government units to remind them that there are other health concerns including routine services.
“Last March 21, 2020, the regional office sent out Center for Health Development (CHD) Advisory No.10 titled ‘Provision of routine services in Western Visayas during the implementation of community quarantine in Western Visayas,” she said.
Reyes said the advisory reminded the LGUs and hospitals to provide essential routine services to ensure stability and security especially among the vulnerable population.
“These are women, children, elderly, and people living with chronic health conditions,” she said.
She said the essential services include medical consultation, immunizations, ante- and post-natal services, dispensing of medicines for communicable and non-communicable diseases such as tuberculosis, HIV, hypertension, and diabetes, response to emerging and re-emerging infections such as dengue.
Likewise, the department also reminded LGUs to sustain the delivery of nutrition services and vaccines for preventable diseases.
Reyes added that LGUs and health facilities are also reminded to implement social distancing, proper hygiene, and other infection-control protocols when implementing these services.
On May 4, 2020, the regional office also reiterated and cascaded guidelines of the nationwide implementation for the enhanced "4S strategy" against dengue, chikungunya, and zika infections as contained in the DOH Administrative Order 2018-0021 dated July 25, 2018. (JBG/LTP/PIA-Iloilo)
