Sto. Niño town to be declared as 'drug-cleared'

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, June 23 (PIA) - - The Regional Oversight Committee for Barangay Drug-Clearing is set to declare Sto. Nino town this province as a drug-cleared municipality before the month ends.

Police Colonel Ariel N. Quilang, provincial director of the Phililpine National Police this province, said officials of the town have already prepared the documents and necessary requirements for the declaration ceremony.

He said Sto. Niño will be the seventh town of the province to be declared as drug-cleared next to Sta. Teresita, Sta. Praxedes, Rizal, Calayan Island, Allacapan and Santa Ana.

"We are hopeful to declare some more municipalities in the near future. We urge officials of other towns to exert more effort to clear their respective barangays from drug infestations," Quilang said.

Based on the latest report, Quilang said there were already 314 barangays in the province that were declared drug-cleared by the Oversight Committee.

Earlier, the PNP and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency reported that of the 820 barangays of the province, there were 666 assessed as drug affected.

On demand reduction, there were already 9, 118 drug surrenderers in the province wherein 8, 412 have already graduated in the recovery wellness program. (MDCT/OTB/PIA 2-Cagayan)
