Taguig City LGU strengthens comprehensive bike program

PARAÑAQUE CITY, June 4 (PIA) -- The City Government of Taguig has set up a temporary bike lanes along Cayetano Boulevard, and Bayani Road that will be available for bikers for three days as they bike to work or purchase  basic needs as part of its comprehensive bike program.

The 3-day demo aims to gauge the number of bikers who will utilize the routes during the General Community Quarantine (GCQ). 

On Wednesday,  the city government launched its comprehensive bike program, part of it was the establishment of the Active Transport Office, an office dedicated to biking and looking into ways on how the ‘Probinsyudad’ could encourage citizens to use bicycles as alternative mode of transportation.

“We treat people who embrace active mobility, such as cyclists and pedestrians, as first-class citizens. We are preparing the infrastructure, the incentives, and other measures to make transport in the city safe, inclusive, and sustainable,” Mayor Lino Cayetano said.

To cultivate a new biking environment, city employees may borrow bicycles and helmets that they can use for their travel between work and home.  

The city government is also looking for partnership with the private sector to ensure that malls and other establishments who will provide bike racks for employees and customers, as well as play a central role in increasing bike-friendly spots across the city. 

“Bike-Friendly Taguig Ordinance,” was also signed on June 1 as a part of the city’s campaign for biking as an important step to champion healthy and sustainable living. (Taguig PIO/PIA-NCR)
