BatStateU expands SUC landscape through the country's pioneer KIST Park

BATANGAS CITY, July 8 (PIA) --State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) in the Philippines have more reasons for adding value to their field of operations, as Batangas State University paves the way with the establishment of the university’s Knowledge, Innovation and Science Technology (KIST) Park.

Designated as a Special Economic Zone on the 22nd of May 2020 by President Rodrigo Roa Duterte through Proclamation No. 947, the BatStateU KIST Park is a pioneer university-based Information Technology (IT) Park in the country, and the first KIST registered by the Philippine Economic Zone Authority.

Reinforced by the university’s 15 development centers in research and innovation, this IT Park is a breeding ground for knowledge generation, technology transfer, and commercialization—giving locators and start-ups a unique advantage on top of the income tax holidays and other fiscal and non-fiscal incentives extended to operators within the ecozone.

BatStateU’s 2,300 partners across government, industry, and academe at the local and international level help boost the IT Park’s network in the fields of science, information technology, engineering, manufacturing, and creative design.

Through this ground-breaking initiative, BatStateU lays out the blueprint for other SUCs in the country to follow suit in expanding their programs for industry-academe synergy, technopreneurship, and business incubation and acceleration.

The BatStateU KIST Park’s virtual launching is set on July 20, 2020.

Batangas State University is a Level IV state university in the CALABARZON region, and the only SUC in the country accredited by the US Accrediting Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) for its Engineering and Information Technology programs. It is rated 3 stars in the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) list of top universities. (PIA Batangas/BatStateU KIST Park)
