TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, July 3 (PIA) - - Half of the patients infected with Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) are Locally Stranded Individuals while 42 percent are Returning Overseas Filipinos (ROFs), Director Dante Balao, chairperson of the Regional Task Force, reported.
Balao said only 8 percent of the total number of confirmed positive cases from June 8 to July 2 were local transmission or five of the 64 new recorded cases.
“Majority of these cases were imported as they came from areas with local transmission. In fact, region 2 ranked 15th among all regions nationwide with the most number of positive cases,” Balao said.
He further said that despite of the increasing number of cases in the region, there were no health workers infected nor additional deaths recorded, so far.
According to Llester Guzman, DOh-2 health education and promotions officer, the region now has 99 confirmed cases from March to July 2, in which majority are males where their age bracket ranges from 21 to 30 years old.
Guzman also reported that 58 percent of the total cases were asymptomatic, 40 percent were mild and only one percent each for severe and critical cases.
“As of this time, we already have 44 percent of recoveries, 39 percent currently admitted, 16 percent clinically recovered and one percent death,” Guzman said.
As to the distribution of cases per travel history, 39 percent came from the National Capital Region, 28 percent from abroad, 19 percent without travel history, six percent from region 4A, while others have travel history within the region. (ALM/OTB/PIA-Cagayan)
