DepEd bats for liberating learners from bondage of fear, poverty

TALAKAG, Bukidnon, July 3 (PIA) – The Department of Education (DepEd) – 10 is now pushing for a type of education that would liberate the learners from the bondage of fear and poverty.

In an interview with Myron Talosig of DepEd-10 during the regional launching of the Poverty Reduction, Livelihood and Employment Cluster (PRLEC) of the Regional Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (RTF-ELCAC) at Barangay Lantud here Wednesday, he said the DepEd continues to cater to learners who would enrol in the Alternative Learning System to capture all potential learners to enable them to finish their basic education. 

Through the of ALS program, DepEd-10 aims capacitate interested Indigenous People (IP) in Barangay Lantud to access and complete basic education in a mode that fits their distinct situation and needs.

“Completing their basic education can help in satisfying the requirements for other agencies like TESDA, as this creates a value chain so that they can avail themselves of their services also,” he said.

During the PRLEC launching, DepEd-10 has distributed 500 pencils to school age children from donations of private stakeholders.

The PRLEC launching was in support of President Duterte’s Executive Order (EO) 70, which institutes the whol-of-nation approach to end local communist armed conflict. 

“As for the longer-term support of Lantud, we are looking to the possibility of integrating the existing Lantud Elementary School into a high school," Talosig said. 

Emphasizing the importance of education of sharpening one’s knowledge to arrive at informed decisions, DepEd-10 commits itself to guiding the young to become responsible citizens. 

“As the DepEd Secretary has always said that the department of education will provide an education that would truly be liberating from the bondage, fear, and poverty.” he concluded.
