Mamba: MGCQ status is a welcome dev’t

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, July 4 (PIA) - - The Modified General Community Quarantine (MGCQ) status of the province is a welcome development, said Governor Manuel N. Mamba.

He said despite of the increasing number of positive cases, suspected and persons under monitoring in the province, the new community quarantine status is considered as a consolation to the responders, frontliners and the Cagayano people who followed the guidelines and protocols set by the National Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) to contain the spread of the virus.

Since July 1, the IATF placed Cagayan and Isabela provinces in region 2 under MGCQ with strict local action, while provinces of Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino and Batanes were under MGCQ low risk.

“This is a feather on our cap. We owe this to all our people, the frontliners and responders as we have well-managed our situation in our province,” Mamba said.

He said one of the reasons why the province’s community quarantine was downgraded into modified one is the absence of local transmission among the newly-confirmed positive cases.

“We don’t have local transmission now. All of the Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) positive cases in our province were from areas infected with the virus. These are the Locally Stranded Individuals (LSIs) and our Returning Overseas Filipinos (ROFs),” the governor said.

He also lauded the efforts and initiatives of the Local Government Units in monitoring strictly the entry of LSIs and ROFs in their respective areas, subjecting them into mandatory quarantine and testing.

Mamba also said that with the MGCQ status of the province, more industries and business establishments are allowed to operate but still with strict implementation of the minimum health standards, physical distancing, and the 50 percent limitation in the number of persons inside a venue.

He further said the “Balik Cagayan” program for the returning LSIs will continue as there are still more Cagayanos in different parts of the country who want to return to their home province as an effect of the pandemic. (MDCT/OTB/PIA 2-Cagayan)
