MISAMIS ORIENTAL, July 8 (PIA) -- Anchored on the theme “Batang Pinoy, SANA TALL… Iwas stunting, SAMA ALL,” the National Nutrition Council (NNC)-10 has recently launched the 46th Nutrition Month Celebration in a virtual kickoff ceremony.

In the face of coronavirus disease  2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, the NNC-10 added a sub-theme, “Iwas ALL din sa COVID-19” to support the efforts at countering the virus.

DOH-10 Family Cluster Head, Dr. Elma C. Oclarit underscores the importance of proper nutrition against stunting especially during the early stages of life. (VPSB/PIA10)

“Children are the future of our nation. The children of today will become the adults of tomorrow. When we take good care of them now, the future of our country and this generation and the generations to come would be brighter,"  DOH-10 Family Cluster Head, Dr. Elma C. Oclarit shared.

She emphasized that it is imperative to take good care of the Filipino children by giving them proper nutrition and good immunity against diseases. NNC has been working on the reduction of stunting, which is a form under-nutrition that can be traced even before the child is born, and during the first 1,000 days of life of the child starting the first day of conception or pregnancy until the child reaches two years of age.

In line with the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) 2017-2022 target, the government aims to reduce stunting prevalence from 33.4 in 2015 to 21.4 in 2022 to keep up with the 2030 Sustainable Goal Development #2: Zero Hunger. (VPSBautista/PIA10)
