PARAÑAQUE CITY, July 2 (PIA) -- The City Government of Taguig stands firm on its decision to temporarily close down business establishments that do not adhere to the minimum health standards.
The local government issued this statement on Tuesday via its "I Love Taguig" Facebook page after posts circulated in social media complaining about the temporary shutdown of businesses implemented by city hall.
According to the statement, closing down businesses is not in the city’s best interest, however, the lives of its residents are more important than the revenue that the government will get by allowing the non-complying establishments to continue operations.
The Taguig LGU added that the policy of imposing sanctions to establishments that do not adhere to the safety and health protocols has been announced from the start as these protocols are necessary in order to save lives and contain the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
Establishments that are compliant were commended by the city as they help keep the city safe and the economy moving.
The local government reminded the public that these are not ordinary times and everyone must do their part in order to avoid infection.
As of June 30, 2020, Taguig City has recorded a total of 887 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the city. There have been 3,753 suspected cases, 22 record of fatality, and 145 recoveries. (PIA-NCR)
