WV PLEDS Cluster vows support to end terrorism

ILOILO CITY, July 8 (PIA) -- The Peace, Law Enforcement, and Development Support (PLEDS) Cluster of the Regional Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (RTF-ELCAC) in Western Visayas vows to further strengthen its efforts in its fight against lawlessness and terrorism.

In a meeting called by the Cluster, held at the Police Regional Office (PRO) 6 in Iloilo City, July 6, PRO 6 director Brigadier General Rene Pamuspusan lauded the cooperation and collaboration of the other Clusters with the PLEDS Cluster towards ending local communist armed conflict.

Pamuspusan said that “Through this PLEDS and other clusters, we have steadily gained ground over terrorism and our law enforcement accomplishments speak of how well we managed our strategies.”

He added that the RTF-ELCAC 6 has recently accounted members of the CPP/NPA who withdraw their loyalty to the terrorist group and instead returns to the folds of law.

The Cluster undertakes a more aggressive and focused operation against the CPP-NPA Terrorist, and supplement efforts of the RTF- ELCAC 6 Clusters as part of the whole-nation-approach to end the threat and terrorist activities.

The PLEDS Cluster meeting is conducted regularly to discuss and update plans and programs of member agencies in Western Visayas.

The cluster is composed of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, Philippine National Police, National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP), Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), Department of Justice (DOJ), National Intelligence Coordinating Agency (NICA) and Philippine Information Agency (PIA).

Included in the discussions during the meeting were the updates on counter Communist-Terrorist Groups (CTGs) operation and clearing of affected barangays, update on law enforcement operations and legal offensive, and updates on COVID-19 boarder control operations.

Present during the activity were Joint Task Force Commander and Army’s 3rd Infantry Division Commander Major General Eric  Vinoya, PCG 6 Commander Commodore Edgar Boado, NBI 6 Executive Officer lawyer Ramilo Quinto, lawyer Hermie June Toledo of the NCIP 6,  PIA 6 OIC Regional Head Jemin  Guillermo, Jan Ramos of NICA, Maricel Bechayda of DILG 6 and Prosecutor Flosemer Chris Gonzales from DOJ.

Meanwhile, all the Cluster members present during the meeting reiterated their full support and cooperation to the attainment of peace and order in the entire Western Visayas and expressed hope that terrorism will end in the countryside.
