Local DRRMC calls for readiness this typhoon season

BAGUIO CITY, July 8(PIA) --With the onset of the typhoon season, the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC) reminds the public to be on guard of their surroundings for possible flashfloods and mudslides to prevent the possible loss of lives and properties.

Stephanie Trinidad of the Local DRRMC said though they are ready to respond to emergency situations with the acquisition of rescue equipment, vehicles for mobility and two-radio for communications, preparedness of the people is a must in any eventuality.

We have learned a lot from previous experiences on how to handle and manage   extreme conditions and worse scenarios, she said emphasizing the need for every stakeholder’s participation and everyone’s support in dealing with emergencies especially this time of the COVID-19 pandemic.

To enable emergency response teams to serve better and faster, Trinidad said the city recently beefed up its rescue equipment and emergency vehicles and regularly provides training to its responders.

Barangay officials who serve as first responders in their respective areas are also being empowered and retooled in handling emergencies.

Mayor Benjamin Magalong, in a pep talk with officials of Middle Rock Quarry barangays doing maintenance and cleaning of the canal at the City Camp Lagoon to prevent the clogging of the drainage that may result to flooding, said   the City government will provide cleaning equipment and protective gears for the volunteers.

July is National Disaster Resiliency Month with the theme "Sama-samang Pagsulong tungo sa Katatagan sa Gitna ng Bagong Normal."
