2020 census all set to begin  except in areas on lockdown in Kalinga

CITY OF TABUK, Kalinga, Aug. 30 (PIA) - - The conduct of the 2020 Census of Population and Housing in the province  will  start as scheduled on  September 1 except for  areas that are on  lockdown  due to COVID-19  cases.

Provincial Philippine Statistics Authority head Maribel Dalayday said trainings for 12 hired head census supervisors, 51 team supervisors and 221 enumerators were conducted and distribution of census forms is on-going.

All the field workers were also oriented on health protocols to be complied and observed during the conduct of the census and provided with the necessary personal protective equipment and disinfectants to ensure their safety as well as the rspondents.

Kalinga Philippine Statistics Authority head Maribel Dalayday  says   they are all set  implement  the 2020 Census on Population and Housing beginning  on   September 1 but areas  under  lockdown due to COVID-19  cases will not start until  it is lifted. 

Dalayday said supervisors and enumerators are directed to coordinate with barangay officials to establish first-hand information on the situation of the community and to know if there are COVID-19 positive cases in the area.

Census in areas on lockdown will not start until the quarantine is lifted.  “Families with positive COVID-19 cases will not be covered for the meantime until patients recover from the disease or the red zone back to normal,” she said.

As of August 29, there are 69 COVID-19 active cases in the province of Kalinga.

Dalayday also informed that most of the hired enumerators are assigned to their respective barangays for easy coordination, effective and efficient conduct of census since they are familiar of the place and know the residents.

Based on provincial annual population growth projection of 1.02 percent from 2010 to 2015, Kalinga this 2020 may increase by more than 10,000 from the 212,680 population in 2015. (JDP/PAB-PIA CAR, Kalinga)
