Army in Samar welcomes surrender of two Militias

TACLOBAN CITY, Aug. 2 (PIA) – Lt. Col. Edgar Allan Orbito, Battalion Commander of the 63IB, welcomed the surrender of two Militia ng Bayan members in Basey, Samar and urged other NPA members to return to the folds of the law.

Orbito identified the surrenderees as Alias Dudik, 51 years old and Alias Bong, aged 22, both residents of Brgy. Mabini, Basey.

The duo surrendered at the Headquarters of 63IB in Brgy. New San Agustin, Basey on Monday, July 27, 2020.

The militia members decided to stop supporting the Communist Terrorist Group's cause and focus instead of serving the local government.

They brought with them one (1) hand grenade, one (1) Magnum 357 pistol and medical paraphernalia.

The Militia ng Bayan acts as the NPA's paramilitary in the barangay.

To recall, the Basey Municipal Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict, using the whole-of-nation approach, has embarked on a Retooled Community Support Program in the town’s conflict-stricken barangays to listen to the concerns of the people and to bring the necessary basic services to the constituents.
