BAGUIO CITY, Aug. 11(PIA) - - The City Government of Baguio reiterates anew the importance of prioritizing health and safety by strictly adhering to the minimum health standards at home, workplaces and when going out of their houses as COVID – 19 cases continue to rise.
Mayor Benjamin Magalong, in a health advisory posted by the City Public Information Office, appeals to the general public to exert more effort in protecting themselves and their loved ones given that several confirmed cases recorded were asymptomatic or showing no sign of symptoms of COVID infection
With notable number of elderlies among the COVID cases, the mayor also gently reminds senior citizens to take extra precautionary measures in protecting themselves particularly when they go out on Sundays. (The City government permits SC to go out Sundays for important errands and short walking exercises) and for them to head home right away, once their errands have been completed.
“The virus is no longer a thing to be toyed with. In order to fight the virus as one, we should not falter in keeping all safety measures in place. Discipline saves lives. There’s a need to take responsibility over our family’s well-being. Ultimately our behavior will dictate the efficiency of mitigating the virus,” Magalong stressed.
As of August 9 data of the City Health Services Office, there are 162 recorded confirmed cases in Baguio with 58 active, 99 recoveries and 5 deaths.
Of the total number of confirmed cases, 27 are senior citizens and of the city’s five recorded deaths, three were dead on arrival at health facilities.
City HSO Chief Epidemiologist Dr. Donnabel Tubera also reminded the public of the importance of seeking early consultation when symptoms such as fever plus cough or sore throat and difficulty of breathing persist. This is especially so to those belonging to the high risk individuals that include senior citizens, pregnant women and people with medical conditions.
“This is not a time to fear the doctor. In this COVID time, we need to put our thrust on them”, Tubera added.
For added infection control and prevention measures, Magalong also issued an administrative order mandating all employees, workers and other personnel in business establishments, banks and government offices to wear face shields while on duty.
The mayor also extended the imposition of the liquor ban in Baguio until August 31.
Extensive contact tracing is continuously being implemented for any addition cases that also include the lockdown of the involved barangays for complete and efficient tracing of possible contacts of the confirmed patients. (JDP/CCD-PIA CAR)
