DOLORES, Abra, Aug.13(PIA)—The Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) of Barangay Bayaan in this town is embarking on a worthy project of collecting plastic bottles in exchange for school supplies and learning materials for the students.
Bayaan SK president Jewin Joyce C. Laureta shared their project, “Plastic Mo, School Supplies Ko” during the Laging Handa Network Briefing today with Presidential Communication and Operations Office (PCOO)Secretary Martin Andanar and ASEC Kris Ablan.
Laureta said that through this project, they help the students with their learning materials while protecting the environment as it would reduce plastics scattered around the barangay. The collected plastic bottles, she said, will be used as eco bricks for planting areas for vegetables which they can harvest later adding food in the table.
Laureta said that they have already been giving free learning materials to the students of their barangay. But with this forthcoming school opening where the Department of Education would be using different learning delivery modalities with no face to face classes allowed because of this COVID pandemic, they saw the need to continue giving school supplies to students.
“We have also thought of those who are not able to connect online for learning so it is important for them to have physical learning modules.” Laureta said.
She hopes her fellow SK leaders will replicate the said project because she believes that this would be of great help to the students especially during this COVID-19 pandemic and for the environment.
Laurente also bared that they will be implementing “Salwad Kinasirib” activity where they will give flash drives, bond paper, ink and other materials to the teachers which they could use in various alternative learning modalities.
Meanwhile, Laurente shared that that she and her fellow youth leaders in Dolores conducted activities for “Linggo ng Kabataan” to encourage the youth to hone their skills thru online trivias, writing and recital, poster, and essay writing contests while encouraging them to stay at home during this health crisis.(JDP/XADC – PIA CAR, Abra)
