CagVal's COVID-19 cases now at 426

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, Aug. 9 (PIA) - -There are now 426 confirmed cases of the coronavirus disease in the Cagayan Valley Region after the Department of Health (DOH-2) reported 20 additional infections on Friday while five new cases yesterday, August 8.

According to DOH report, of the the total number of confirmed cases in the region, the nine cases have been accounted to the National Capital Region (NCR).

Regional Director Rio L. Magpantay said, of the 25 new cases recorded in the last two days, 11 are from Isabela, 13 from Cagayan and one from Nueva Vizcaya.

Magpantay said most of the infected individuals are Locally Stranded Individuals who came from NCR and other regions, Returning Overseas Filipino Workers.

"Eight of the new cases were acquired through local transmission," he said, adding that these infected individuals have direct exposure to confirmed COVID-19 positive patients.

He also said that 11 of the newly confirmed cases have mild symptoms while others are asymptomatic; two are in hospitals, nine are on home quarantine while others are at their respective LGU quarantine facilities.

"We are now conducting massive contact tracing to determine the close contacts of these new cases. Our health officials are now monitoring the situations of these patients," Magpantay said.

At present, there are already 227 recoveries, 191 active cases and three deaths recorded regionwide. (ALM/OTB/PIA-Cagayan)
